I have to admit, the blog assignment was rather daunting to me--let's be honest, every assignment in this class has been daunting to me. I worried about how I would create the blog and what I would write about after it was designed. It wasn't as scary as I thought, as a matter of fact, I rather enjoyed it. This assignment made me reflect upon the immediate fear or nonacceptance of technologies that often embraces those of us who have not grown up with computers, Ipads, Cell phones, the Internet, and such. It reminds me of purchasing my first cell phone. I was around 26 or so and was checking out cell phones in Circuit City. The one--there were maybe three to choose from--I chose was a small phone with a flip up antennae; the price? $500.00. I drove to my parents house later that day eager to show off my fine new purchase. My father was embarrassed at my stupidity. These phones were just a scam, he argued. There was no way they were ever going to work and if they did, who in the world would want to have one? Well, sadly, he didn't live long enough to see that his youngest daughter was not quite the idiot he had feared. As it turns out, I am now just as skeptical as he was with new technologies. Let me rephrase that, I WAS just as skeptical as he was with new technologies. Now, I am ready to embrace the new opportunities personally and in my classroom. I won't say that I am not cautious, but I am open-minded and ready to embrace change!
Below is an article I came across while looking for opportunities to safely use blogs in elementary school. I hope you find it useful too.

great article! thanks for sharing your find! Glad to read that their are blog sites just for elementary students...but as technology natives they can handle the real thing better than immigrants!
