Our task

I came across this quote, and it seems to solidify what our texts and our personal research has been telling us all along: "Our task is to provide an education for the kind of kids we have... Not the kind of kids we used to have... Or want to have... Or the kids that exist in our dreams."
Mary Kay Utech
We can't hold on to old lessons we created for the kind of kids we used to have, we can't create lessons based on the children we desire in our classroom or the perfectly well-behaved, eager to please, brilliant little dears we dream of--we must plan and create for the kids who show up in our classrooms.  Kids who have never lived in a world without have cell phones, Internet, E-readers, and the other current and developing technologies that make our world what it is today.  I, for one, am looking forward to it!
