I just came across this article and am not sure how I feel about it. While I understand the potential dangers of teachers being friends with students, I am not sure I like the government controlling who can be friends with whom, especially when it also refers to former students. My oldest son is great friends with several of his former high school teachers. I don't believe he should be restricted from being online friends with these people simply because they once taught him in school. High school teachers teach approximately one hundred students a year, so a teacher who works thirty years would have approximately three thousand people they are not allowed to communicate with online? Will we also forbid police officers, doctors, nurses, counselors, coaches, professional athletes, etc. from being Facebook friends with the children (or adults who had contact with these people as a child) that they come in contact with through their jobs? I am anxious to hear your opinions.
